Where Do Pubs Come From?
The word pub is short for “Public House”, and while many of us are familiar with the cozy establishments you find in local neighbourhoods across BC, you may not realize how old pubs are! Pubs, or taverns as they used to be known, go all the way back to Roman times, making our tradition of getting together and sharing a drink ancient! Modern pubs and brewhouses as we know them today got their roots from the 19th century when pub owners began to use distinct building styles to help their pub stand out, a practice that can often still be seen in bars and pubs today!
When Did Beer Come to Canada
Beer was first introduced to Canada in the seventeenth century by European settlers, with the first commercial brewery opening in Quebec City back in 1668. Since then, we’ve seen countless breweries, pubs, and microbreweries popping up around the country, each with its own delicious offerings for local tap houses to carry. There’s no denying that Canadians love a good brew, and sipping some “homegrown” beverages while watching the game is a great way to unwind in true Canadian fashion!
